Places & Faces: Apex

Places & Faces: Apex

Apex is located outside of Penticton BC.  It has some great amenities and clever ideas that can credited to the gentlemen in the photo:  James Shalman (middle) arrived at Apex in 2001 and Shawn Witty (right) a few years before that.  Shawn also serves on the  CWSAA technical committee for BC  (thank you Shawn).

Apex has a combination of Doppelmayr high speed quad and Mueller fixed grip lifts.
The Tbar immediately above the village is well known to all kinds of competitive teams as Apex has a robust early season and season long training programme. The slopes it serves continues to be a favourite for racers.
The slopeside village as all the amenities for a multi night stay from restaurants, retail, rental, liquor, etc. Fat bikes are also rented in the village.
Indoor rental staff uniforms went with the red mac look.
Apex is proactive and posts concussion educational signage next to the helmet rental section.
Lyle has been patrolling at Apex for decades. The location for patrol is cleverly located in the lower level of one the village buildings. They renovated part of what would be parking, and the result is a ski-in and drive-out location for easy patient transport. The double glass doors in the photo shows the easy exit.
Patrol is located on the corner of this building providing direct ski in, drive out access.
Apex has both a boarded hockey skating rink, and a skating loop.
The skating loop is 1 km long. It meanders through the forest and has an elevation variance of 5 feet. It is a fantastic addition to the village. Great idea.

The tubing park is village centre and includes double tubes to ride with children.

The tube park runs have a couple of rollers on the way down, and a banked turn to the right at the bottom with a huge uphill mound to ensure guests stop at the end.

Apex makes effective use of its carpet lift with beginner ski and snowboard terrain on one side, and its tube park on the other. The carpet lift is used by all.
