Big White Ski Resort is looking for a full time, year round, experienced ski school Business Manager to run all aspects of the Big White Kids Centre Snow School and Day Care. Reporting directly to the Director of Mountain Sports the Business Manager will work closely with the Snow School Management team to ensure smooth daily operations and assist Big White to grow the Centre.

The Business Manager is responsible for four (4) key components of the business:

  • Responsible for operational effectiveness of Kid Centre (KC)
  • Manage the daily operations of the KC Ski & Board School
  • Oversee operations of Daycare and KC Kitchen
  • Oversees any/all of the Children’s related activities.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the Kid’s Centre (KC) and Children’s skiing and snowboarding programs
  • Manage the Kid’s Centre staff and their schedules
  • Be a leader in delivering an unsurpassed guest experience for visitors to Big White Ski Resort
  • Assist the Director of Skiing in product development
  • Be an example in developing cooperative inter-departmental relationships

Specific Responsibilities:

This is a basic outline of the day to day responsibilities of the Business Managers – Kid’s Centre.  Adjustments will be made if necessary to reflect the needs and expectations of the Big White Ski & Board School and Big White Ski Resort management.  These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Staffing:

    • Scheduling of  daily programs as well as weekend programs
    • Responsible for weekly tentative class placements which are posted or emailed out on Sundays to staff, manage staff between both ends of the KC
    • Develop a Private only Pod to increase private lesson revenue
    • Participate as a trainer when available for new and returning staff
    • Manage daily lesson line-ups, participate with Lap Master, coordinate class dismissal/pickup process
    • Manage the coaching staff for Nancy Greene racers, work in conjunction with BW Ski Club Head Coach
    • Manage the staffing for Nancy Greene/Big White Ski Club staffing up to U10a and track the hours of the coaching staff
    • Assist in hiring of Winter seasonal staff of KC, paying attention to securing staff with specific certifications in both skiing and snowboarding, Park, Racing, and accommodating special needs children
    • Manage and promote a positive culture within the KC
    • Assist in developing and carry out communication efforts with KC staff
    • Be a key player in maintaining open and honest communications
    • Oversee the development of Pod leaders and their effectiveness
    • Provide mid and end of season assessments for Kid’s Centre staff
    • Manage the staff issues and documentation process for termination of staff when required

Business Operations:

    • Develop opportunities to grow KC revenues while looking for means to streamline processes to help reducing cost
    • Develop a strong working relationship with the System Administrator and all Coordinators within KC
    • Responsible for Team building within KC pods plus provide input with the organizing of KC special event
    • Participate in improving current product offerings, and provide analyses for improvements to increase effectiveness and profitability
    • Monitor, manage and report any issues with regards to KC staffing or trends which need to be addressed
    • Be a key player with Snow School Management Team on all operational matters
    • Work with the Director to problem solve any computer program related issues with in KC and or child tracking (Flaik system)
    • Be a key player on the Snow School Management Team on all operational matters
    • Take the lead in managing all KC related correspondence with clients on incidents, managing the information flow from all departments (Ski Patrol, Guest Services, client’s feedback) to create a concise, thorough,  factual responses which supports Big White’s approach to customer care
    • Provide a weekly report to the Director of Skiing outlining any and all issues related to the operation of the Ski & Board School

Day Care/Kitchen Operations:

    • Oversee the operations of the kitchen, staff, and address in a timely fashion any Interior Health related issues
    • Arrange ordering of food Wednesday morning (winter season) breakfast meeting
    • Oversee the operations and the hiring of staff for licensed Day Care while working with the coordinator of the Day Care

 

Qualifications:

  • Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA)/Canadian Association Snowboard Instructors (CASI) certification OR Parks and Recreations background
  • A strong customer service background with the ability to deliver an unsurpassed guest experience for visitors to Big White Ski Resort
  • Excellent time management skill set
  • Effective verbal and listening skills
  • A college diploma or university degree is an asset
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and strengths in innovation, energy, and results-orientation.
  • Must be results oriented with ability to be very flexible
  • Computer literacy (Opera, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Positive attitude and supportive, team based approach towards the attainment of the Snow School's goals.
  • Resort Experience an asset
