BC Family Day
CWSAA is working with the entire tourism industry in the province on a combined letter to the Premier related on the importance of maintaining the current BC family day date. It is critical that the government hears from the entire tourism industry – not just the ski sector! Please encourage your local stakeholder organizations to submit their names to be included on the combined letter HERE.
We’re here for you! Here are some resources that might help. Contact the CWSAA office if there is anything we can help you with, and be sure to keep us updated on your opening schedule and any exciting updates.
BC Fair Wage Commission Meetings
The BC Fair Wages Commission has initiated input meetings and webpage for consultation and feedback HERE. It is very important that ski areas sign up for spaces in advance to speak at the regional meetings and share how minimum wage changes will impact your business. Please encourage other businesses in your region and destination to attend. CWSAA will also be making a submission.
Over the past two weeks CWSAA staff mailed SnowPass brochures to 2780 schools in Western Canada. Now in its 20th year, this national program offers skiing and snowboarding to children 9 and 10 years old at over 150 ski areas in Canada. If you’d like a logo or digital ad to include on your website, please email [email protected].
CSIA Apprentice Instructor Program
CSIA has developed and launched a new entry level ski instructor course that helps ski area snowsport schools recruit more first time instructors. CWSAA’s Snowsport School committee supports the initiative and believes it provides more flexibility for snowsport schools to customize training relevant to the area, and improves the opportunity to recruit new instructors. Ski had a strong presence at the Travel Alberta ALTO Awards. Congratulations to Brian Rode and Marmot Basin for winning the ALTO for marketing campaigns over $50,000. Go Ski Alberta and Sunshine Village were also recognized with nominations in other categories. Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda deserves praise for his energy and high engagement throughout the conference including presenting each of the awards.

Ski areas are encouraged to get in front of their chamber and local councils to share the value of their business to the community/region, such as employment.
