Places & Faces: Mt. Timothy

Mt. Timothy is located 24 km east of Lac La Hache, just north of 100 Mile House in BC’s Cariboo region.  This is a spectacular region of BC blessed with high plateaus and expansive skies.  The Coast mountains are to the west, the Cariboo Mountains to the east, and in the middle is Mt. Timothy.  Those familiar with the early days of Mt. Washington on the island will be happy to know that the beloved triple Mueller Red Chair is live and well at Mt. Timothy and serves as the areas primary lift.  It replaced the original Tbar, which is still in place but not used.

Caroline Sherrer is the Manager at Timothy. She arrived a couple years ago following many years at SilverStar and ski areas in the USA. John is the primary groomer and had lots of dry powder to play with on the day I arrived.

The daylodge is fantastic. Open cafeteria service and seating on the upper level. Guest services and rentals on the lower level. Currently Timothy is a winter only destination. Providing some summer opportunities is a common topic, and the beautiful log lodge would make for a great meeting and wedding venue.

Caroline was successful in accessing a 100% grant for energy efficiency initiatives which allowed for superior furnace upgrades and insulated roof. I also liked the use of ski poles handles for hangers by the furnace.

Great idea: The team at Timothy used local staff talent to renovate the downstairs guest service area. Staff creativity was used in the painting and design. Part of the former orange daylodge roof sheeting, was recycled as a feature wall to give a splash of colour and brighten the space. I was here a couple years ago and can attest to the positive difference it made.

Upstairs and down, the daylodge walls feature mounted equipment. Does anyone remember teaching on these? My ski school director Guy Paulsen brought these into our school decades ago. I recall having success with them in specific situations as they increased mobility.

Mt Timothy is a Prinoth shop with a 2010 cat.

Patrol is located next to the daylodge. It has easy ski in access and drive out location next to a parking lot.
