Concussion Awareness Webinar

Presenter:
Dr. Shelina Babul, Director, BC Injury Research & Prevention Unit

November 25, 11am Pacific (BC), noon Mountain (Alberta)

Back by popular demand, this session was presented by De Karmali at the 2026 Spring Conference.  Her colleague Dr Babul will be bringing this topic back in advance of the ski season, so that ski areas can include concussion awareness in their training programs.

About the session:

Concussions are more common than many people realize in mountain environments, and recognizing them early can make a critical difference in recovery and safety. From guest incidents on the slopes to workplace injuries among staff, ski areas play an important role in identifying, responding to, and managing potential concussions.

In this informative session, Dr. Babul with the BC Injury Research & Prevention Unit, will introduce the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT)—an evidence-based program designed to help workers and workplaces better understand, recognize, and respond to concussions. https://cattonline.com/

Participants will learn practical strategies for identifying concussion symptoms, supporting affected individuals, and implementing clear response protocols within their operations. The session will also explore how concussion awareness training can strengthen workplace safety culture, support staff wellbeing, and improve outcomes for both employees and guests.

Whether you work in mountain operations, ski patrol, guest services, human resources, or risk management, this session will provide valuable tools and insights to help your team take a more informed and proactive approach to concussion awareness and response.
