Financial Impact of the Western Canadian Ski Industry

Our good friends at Ecosign Mountain Resort Planners Ltd. have just released the findings of the 2015/16 CWSAA ski industry financial analysis.  The data reflects the size and impact of the ski industry in Western Canada from Manitoba west based on the 2015/16 year.   Highlights include:

Skier Visits:              8.4 million

Total Revenue:        $790 million (annual)

Number of Employees:       16,200

Land Use Fees and Property Tax contribution to government: $15.3 million.   This does not include sales tax for goods and services.

The study is critical to communicating the scope of our industry to governments, and understanding our industry as an important economic generator and contributor to the social fabric of Canada.

The annual report is based on submissions by ski areas.  Detailed analysis and reports have been sent to the participating ski areas.   All ski areas are encouraged to participate and may contact CWSAA for more information. Appreciation is extended to Ecosign, especially Don Murray, for this tremendous work.
