SUMMARY:
A Snow Sport Instructor is responsible for delivering safe, engaging, and high‑quality ski and/or snowboard lessons to children, youth, and adults across a variety of lesson types. Instructors play a key role in creating positive guest experiences by providing professional instruction, excellent customer service, and maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment.
Snow Sport Instructors are expected to work collaboratively with peers and leadership, follow Snow School standards and procedures, and contribute positively to Snow School culture and operations throughout the season.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to the following):
Snow Sport Instruction
• Deliver exceptional private, single-day group, and multi-day lessons to adults and children.
• Teach a variety of lesson types and programs while adhering to Cypress Mountain & Boyne Resorts Snow Sports standards as well as those established by relevant national certifying bodies (or accepted equivalents).
Guest Experience & Customer Service
• Meet and greet guests; determine lesson goals and set achievable objectives.
• Host and supervise guests as they navigate on- and off-snow amenities, including rentals, guest services, and occasional mealtimes.
• Supervise youth program participants during lunch periods.
• Complete end-of-lesson report cards and transfer-of-care procedures, including sign-out and delivery of lesson summaries to guests and/or parents/guardians as appropriate.
Operational Support
• Assist with learning area set-up, tear-down, maintenance, and special events as required.
• Provide additional on-snow support during peak periods to ensure smooth program delivery.
Safety & Risk Management
• Actively uphold Duty of Care, the Alpine Responsibility Code, Emergency Response Procedures and all applicable Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s).
• Participate in Cypress Mountain’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, including department training, and pre-shift safety meetings.
• Promptly report hazards, near misses, and injuries.

QUALIFICATIONS/COMPITENCIES:
• Ability to work effectively with children (ages 3+), youth, and adults.
• Professional, reliable, punctual, safety-minded and team‑oriented.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn and develop as an instructor.
• Ability to ski or snowboard for extended periods in variable weather conditions.
• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment as required.
• Comfortable working outdoors in cold, snowy, rainy and changing alpine environments.
• Ability to stand, walk, kneel, and assist guests on uneven terrain.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
• Minimum CSIA / PSIC / CASI Level 1 Certification (or recognized foreign equivalent) & good standing within their certifying organization.
• Minimum of 16 years of age or older at the time of hire. *To meet BCESA and ability to work alone while supervising others in an alpine environment.
• Clear Police Information Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening from dated April 2025 or more recent.
• Must be able to legally work in Canada.
AVAILABILITY & SEASONAL COMMITMENT:
• Late November – Early April (weather and business‑volume dependent).
• Availability during Winter Holidays is a requirement of employment.
• Full Time – minimum 64 days available & 52 worked within the instruction period:
o 15 days over holiday periods (Winter Break & Family Day Weekend).
o 10 Peak Days (Weekends in January & February).
o 4 consistent days including 1 weekend day across the regular season (Jan 2 – Mar 14).
o Some early and late season work may be available on a casual on-call basis.
• Part Time – minimum 18 days available & 12 days worked within the instruction period (excluding sick days or subsequent RDO’s).
o Minimum 8 peak or holiday days.
o 10 consistent weekends, evening or night days.
o Call-off’s count towards shift’s worked.
ONBOARDING & ORIENTATION:
• Attend a minimum of two 6 hour in-person training and orientation seminars (or acceptable alternative) held at Cypress Mountain Snow School in late November and/or early December.
• Complete all online training and submit required work, including eligibility documents prior to first day of work.
SEASONAL SCHEDULING & HOURS OF WORK:
• Snow Sport Instructor schedules are operationally driven. Team members can expect higher shift availability during peak season periods, including Winter Holidays and weekends in January and February.
• As seasonal business levels taper in late winter and spring – available shifts may decrease. After mid‑March, Cypress Mountain may only be able to offer part‑time equivalent hours, including to instructors hired into full‑time seasonal positions.
• While Cypress Mountain Snow School strives to offer meaningful employment to all team members, work schedules and hours are not guaranteed and are based on weather conditions, guest demand, operational needs, and individual availability.
WAGE/BENEFITS/PERKS:
Base Instructor Rates (By Certification Level) Additional Hourly Bonuses ($0.50-$2.00/hour)

• Level 4: $32.50/hour
