Places & Faces: Long Lake

Long Lake Ski area south of Boyle, Alberta and northeast of Edmonton overlooks scenic Long Lake Provincial Park.  Manager Jocelyn Toronchuk oversees operation of Long Lake Ski Area which is owned by the county.

Good idea: All staff are first aid trained and act as ski patrollers. Most days there are 2 instructors, 2 lift staff, a manager and staff in the day lodge kitchen.

The hill is open from December until the end of March from 10-4 on weekends and during school breaks. They stay open later when the sun allows.

The hill has 12 runs, nestled in the trees and with beautiful views of the lake.

The hill owns its own grader for use as a snowplow to maintain the steep access road that drops from the top of the slopes to the mid-mountain lodge and parking area.

The hill is accessed by a rope tow and a Doppelmayr T-bar complete with some pretty old parts.

Twelve points sticks and one gun manage the snow making, and they are trying to get 3 phase power from the county so they can use a generator for power.
