CWSAA was able to join Katherine and the Pass Powderkeg team during their new After School program lessons. This is the first year offering the Riversdale Rippers, a five week after-school lesson program for children 6-16.
After checking out the After School program, we caught a few extra laps of night skiing then enjoyed some of Alex’s awesome roasted brussel sprouts.
In addition to after school programs, the team at PPK has put considerable effort into creating new skiers and riders. This season the PPK team executed a new “Welcome to Winter” initiative with Lethbridge community groups introducing over 60 new Canadians to skiing. PPK’s President Marty explained that the concept spawned from a presentation that Winsport’s John Francis gave at Spring Conference. To ensure there was lots of help for these new skiers, high school students volunteers as junior instructors assisting PPKs team of ski instructors.
PPKs Learn to Turn program brings new participants out for 4 lessons, and then provides them with a season’s pass to keep working on their skills for the rest of the year!
A great idea for school groups – they are given colour coded ribbons on their tickets. These denote which lifts they are allowed to ride as well as their lesson time. Copies of the colour coded lesson times are posted throughout the lodge to help kids, teachers and staff.
Great to see so much energy directed to creating new skiers and riders!
PPK has also become a smoke free resort and has new signage that includes marijuana and vape.
